"When you lose everything; that's when you're finally free.."

- from The Acolyte

.. shades ( .. thus named because he has a tendency to trigger the shadows of others without even trying - because he's so undeniably and unapologetically himself (.. incidentally not his words ) .. ) didn't be lie ve in "coincidence" as such ..

.. for him there was only synchronicity (most simply understood as meaningful coincidences); signs & hints of the very world itself speaking to you at every opportunity you give it, often telling you more than you either need to or even want to know ..

.. I dunno; seems a lot of ppl just want to do it like the monkeys do & call it a day .. then they have the gall to say those who don't are somehow off .. even Nietzsche thought that sounded suspiciously like what a slave would say ..

.. speaking of monkeys, there's a good example; let's call it nature's revenge, for dramatic effect .. is it me or do attacks on humans by animals seem to be ever increasing..? .. it's easy enough to draw your own con clusions as to why that might be, what could possibly have changed .. anyway ..

.. we've returned to the con cept of the con a good number of times, & that's certainly no coincidence .. understanding it is essential to grasping the inner sense, as opposed to the outer form, of magick as such .. outside of names & forms, various traditions & towering hierarchies, there's actually only one common, one might even say a perennial, element ..

.. but here's the rub, as it were .. it's remarkably difficult to put this into words, at least without sounding silly or trite .. but that doesn't mean it isn't there .. on the con trary, it invariably recurs, hidden in plain sight .. this break in con tinuinty, this abrupt shift of trajectory seemingly in reality itself ..

.. what to do, then, if this phenomenon is so hard to grasp, unless one is prepared to laugh at oneself ..? .. here's a thought, why not do just that, by employing an idea even a child can grasp to refer to the unfathomable itself .. namely the idea of a con or confidence trick ..

.. certainly one could master an esoteric technique, tradition or modality, or indeed as many as one wishes & has the opportunity to, but there exists also a shortcut to initiation, a Cheat Code for reprogramming reality itself, which one might also use if they will ..

.. that is simply an inner, deeper understanding of this con cept, & the Way to use it ..

.. it's not possible to know u don't gnow, if u don't gnow ..

.. and there's a whole lot of space to fill... is it possible? damn man, what if I had a bigger screen? You know, one that encompassed the whole sphere in which I sit? That'd be pretty rad, but I think the expanse could get a bit overwhelming - you know, like we're not even talking about resolution here yet

I WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO CHEAT!!

Ok, looks like I had to cheat - just added a line up..HEY! what just happened? Where did that interjection come from? I mean even the opening thought about a geometric fact of experience, and equating it in a sense with a page or screen upon which I write? I suppose it must be because both the symbolic word and the environment provide information, or meaning (the average plane between the internal and external)

<))-- DON"T OPEN CANS OF WORMS YOU DON"T INTEND TO LET LOOSE! crap, that reminds me: a pet worm didn't get enough airflow and mold formed on the surface of the soil. hope that guy's okay

OK, OK I won't cheat

BUT... back to business. The recognition of a duality

<-[ABANDON ALL HOPE YE WHO ENTER HERE]

The question of the difference between the two is that, seemingly, we do not impart meaning to the environment in quite the same way as we do when working with a space on a screen or page. In the second instance, we obviously are imposing structure with our fingertips, or when we hew out a stone from the quarry and cut it square, if we consider space and the objects in it, and what we do with them, as in a measure similar to using language. The alphabet in this case being the laws of external phenomena, whereas the 2D written wor(l)d imposes a joint visual / phonic space.

We can leave the page whenever we want - lift up the pen or pencil; hell, we don't ever even need to bother writing something down at all. And, you know, that's how it had been for a very long time: only a hand-sorted elite had access to humanity's records, and only they decided what was worth recording.

On the flip-side, most of us aren't too interested in removing ourselves from this moving image train we call reality - how would we do that, anyway, other than through a violent end of some sort? Yeah... so, I think we can stay away from that option, but regardless, one of these days we are going to be hoisted up out of this page of wonders we call home and, hopefully, head somewhere a little bit closer to where we truly feel at ease.

[[announcer: this is a test of the emergency preparedness systems]]

OK, gotta call it quits now - under attack by the house. lots of irritating sonic arrangements have introduced themselves: an imbalanced fan, and helicopter. gonna turn the fan off at least. oh, and there some electric compressor hum now as well. Why have all these things suddenly come into range of awareness? yeah, there's a motorcycle engine too, now a small prop plane flying overhead. ok, can I turn off the fan now? here's the jet aircraft overhead...

-------

Reality is more like stimulation, than simulation.

To be sure, external facts can be codified and measured in some manner and accorded a number, but how does that fact in any measure (nyuk nyuk) give rise to the notion that that somehow makes reality, whatever it turns out to be, less real?

We're living inside some sort of machine that either some[one/thing] else has, or we ourselves have, created. But, really, as with all things, it's a little bit of column J and a little bit of column B. For, if we choose to take the machine analogy further - still remaining within the concerns of the current technology in vogue, i.e. computing, we are both a read and a write head.

A read head in the sense that there is that incoming information from the environment that has some meaning or direct reference to us, merely by the fact that we are experiencing it, and a write head in the sense that I can change the facts of external reality by, for example, building a hut, a house, a home, a dome.

---A write head in the sense that in making adjustments to my posture towards external reality, I then restructure the external space.---

Now, there is an interplay between these two functions that is mediated, since any two things are related by a third, a mathematical truism, especially evident in the production of dualities, one of which we are now dealing with. This mediant entity must be the body; the world out there, my body in the world, myself in my body. These elements of this trine are each composed of two poles: the active and passive consciousness, residing in the world, as dynamic and static arrangements of force, in the body, in conformance with the external world, as action and repose, and in myself as will, as experiencing and moving to change my experience.

<<i admit, further distillation is required; the point of the trine is, however, I believe, valid - I do not have the time at the time to perform a proper enumeration>>

This third liminal, or surface, space is where the action happens and, since right now people seem to enjoy hurting each other a bit more than usual as shown by the international conflicts currently in operation, let's think of it as the frontline in a war between self and not-self, or environment. There is the world of phenomena and the world of law. One is apperceived directly, and the other indirectly through a sort of secondary perception of unity with the external phenomena.

This obviously begs the chicken-and-egg question, for obviously in our case as humans, we have first come into awareness of the "other" after which some then recognized commonalities in exterior phenomena which were "always" respected, or adhered to, and were thus called laws. However, forgetting at this point that humans come pre-installed with sets of "laws of reality" apart from physical phenomena, which are also considered inviolable, those laws pertaining to what is experienced seem to themselves dictate what it is to be a human [in a REAL (royal, laws, you get it - dig?) world]. So again, we have the problem of an undecidable duality, and the best stance to take is to sit back, take a drag on the hookah and say it's not a line segment, it's a triangle.

So again, we have a battlefront - this time between the experienced external reality and the internal ordering of phenomena we call physical laws, since we don't really know which one to put first in any sort of hierarchical arrangement - there's a battle for supremacy [but it's not ever obvious, for me, that this is going on other than under various extreme circumstance].

External phenomena, in contrast to changes in their lawful ordering, are easily manipulated if you don't want to get into the wiggle details. [ledgerdemaine] The revolutions in law, here considered, are the revolutions such as that from Classical to Quantum physics - new phenomena are pointed out, and the old are slotted away in their cubbies as special cases of a new more general law. This is all fine and good, but the fundamental ordering underlying the actual human experience remains more or less unchanged, going back to the computing analogy, all of our operating system, firmware, and drivers have never been updated, or only very little.

In order to be law, its consequences must be found "out-in-the-wild". As something with a real existence must exist independent of the anyone thing thinking it, or in other words, there must be a shared experience of that law, even if it remains unrecognized. - We must defend our positions, in both space and mind.

It should be easier to tie time units together when they are pulled from the same domain, the patterns themselves should be more apparent, showing like simple ratios as our earlier sciences noted. Then what about that old friend, year 0? Bit odd that, like let's start counting years and see what number we can get to before everything crashes (as usual) and we have to pick up the pieces again, but without a calendar.

When in doubt: turn left. .. here's a bold assertion: there's nothing really singular or unique about our time; this time in history ..

.. certainly, many will object, referring to expanding rights & freedoms, or increasing economic prosperity, or the rapidly deteriorating environment .. to which we would respond with the following question: how is this any different from any other time in history ..?

.. the answer, of course, is that it doesn't, save in degree, which is another way to say its rate (of change) .. it's impossible to argue that our time in history hasn't seen an increase in novelty, chaos & entropy over any past time in at least human record ..

.. in fact, the chief, & perhaps the only, distinguishing feature of this time is that it's in con stant in its in con sistency .. put another way, factors such as the aforementioned freedoms, prosperity & environmental degradation are certainly changing, but not at the same rate everywhere .. moreover, the rates of change keep changing at changing rates, hence in con(si)stænt ..

.. in spite of the more or less sincere efforts of so-called "con servatives" to return to some idyllic bygone era, such daze are just that .. even if we can agree about when exactly it is best to "return" to, as if it's an address on a map, there is no known way to ensure this is somehow secured against the in con stant in con sistency of the flow of time, the very definition of which is change ..

.. the question is, rather, where do we put our energy (in all it forms, including money, which as we've previously argued here, is but a "latent" form of energy, or a way to readily store & exchange the latter) towards the most benefit ..?

.. coLLectives of people Working together towards a common goal preceded the gilded neoliberal dream, & they wiLL survive it .. surely it is the creation & sustenance of such groups of people that we ought to seek, & will be of the most benefit in this time which is ever changing in novel ways, & at varying rates ..

.. we mourn the demise of the monoculture, of neoliberalism as a viable political economy, of "the press" when we should really be celebrating.. because what all of these disparate fields have in common is the assumption that there is one right way to understand things & that the other ways are wrong, & that theirs is the former ..

.. today, we're realizing more & more that this may not actually be the case; that it's superficial to the point of inaccuracy to see things this way ..

.. a 'hermeneutics of suspicion' is a way of reading, or interpreting reality, that assumes someone(s) has something to gain by con vincing others that things are a certain way .. this hermeneutics, or Way of reading & interpretation, then looks at things & decides that they are not as they had been con vinced they are, but rather otherwise ..

.. in other words, applying a 'hermeneutics of suspicion' is simply a way of saying that one is reading between the lines, not taking things at face value, is hip to the con ..

.. there is one important point that's worth emphasizing here, & it is that if there's more than one right answer, for sure there's more than one wrong answer ..

.. our double chaLLenge then is not to find the one right answer, because then we fall into the trap of assuming that there is only one .. rather, it is to find the answer that is most applicable to the con text in which we find ourselves operating, & to avoid being swayed either into the view that everyone else is wrong, or that there isn't a more appropriate Way to the one we've happened upon ..

What is the nature of the reality of the past in so far as it concerns our present existence as, I assume you who are reading this are, human beings - [or web scraping computer systems (Hello Google)]: FF ONE! day -> 5-16(2024) f= -11... then another one too, for good measure; it is now 5-17-2024.

Ehr, scratch that - I wouldn't go down that path if I was me, and I am, so I won't go down there on the probabilistic side of things.

Instead let's have physicality remain stable, so you know, things that happened stay happened and we don't get the rug pulled out from underneath us. I will assume you are in a building.

How did that building get there? Someone built it, right? Who, and with what? How long did it take? What is the building made of? Metal, wood, brick, clay? How did it get there, now, where the house is? Who carried it? How much weight had to be moved how far? Where did the energy come from to move the mass in bulk and then to arrange it so that, you know, the building was an "actual" building that did the expected building things.

Do you have heating / cooling? Electricity, running water, gas? Where does the electricity, water, etc. come from? How does it get to the building you are in? What laws had to be intelligibly recognized by someone, somewhere, sometime in order to become physical mechanisms of sufficient complexity to be able operate in the form they are RIGHT NOW in the room in which you are sitting?

We live IN the productions of the past. *[REDACTED([XXX-ORG-XXX])]

Think of the trajectories that the objects around you have taken in the journey to within, say 15 ft. | 5 m., of where you currently are. Try to imagine what they might each look like from different points of view. Try zooming out, looking down at a globe. And this only provides a high structural overview of the very "real" system in which we find ourselves. The complexity, and distance, of these journeys from wherever to wherever again and then here are pretty ridiculous - it's the supply chain thing that was demonstrably shown in out-of-whack state during the pandemic. And along the whole chain there are people and money involved.

These things we take for granted are, when it boils down, in very large measure the work, and to some degree suffering, of other people. Other people worked very hard, for very long, for the things we have now - and they may have rather been doing other things. But, what would have to be given up in order that the hours of our labor could be as short as possible and leisure maximized? ... do people even want leisure maximized? and what is leisure?

Can we determine a measure, a cost benefit analysis acceptable to the majority of human beings, where we can all just chill at a steady state? I don't expect people to want to just lay about in one place, even if they don't want to go very far. So let's start with the basics: how many people do you need to feed and how many people would you like to feed? I don't even know the answer to that question as far as it concerns my own physical sustenance, alone. Is that a bit wild? At least someone has measured it for the "average" individual, even if we have not taken good notes on ourselves, ourselves. I haven't really dug, but you can find a lot of this type of information in old (new?) military manuals.

In some sense we here do have a very real numerical calculus of survival in the sense: I must eat at least X slices of bread, Y ...<- etc. in order to operate at base line. What is that baseline, and what is required to generate that baseline directly from the land or similarly relatively omnipresent sources? For constructing a foundational life support system, somewhere, else, there is no reason to not take advantage of the productions of existing supply lines, but those supply lines themselves may have only a limited lifespan or even cause the opposite of life support.

Because of our current location in time, durable consumer goods can be had with relative ease, but development of progressively newer versions of "same" thing could, can, and maybe should stagnate due to environmental stresses they cause. In any event, maybe some people could get together to build something that's not too BIG that would allow them to eat for "free" indefinitely. So, i.e., never a concern about what to eat, or drink, in the water management equivalent which underlies the food supply. Might not be a fancy diet from a Michellin star restaurant, but I'm just looking for a way to make it so we don't have to do too much that we DON'T WANT to do, not find a way for everyone to do everything that they ---DO WANT to do. Personally, I'd rather avoid the DON'Ts than have the DOs.

.. in psychology, 'transference' refers to when someone transfers feelings or associations they had with someone in their past to someone in their present world .. what we seek to outline here however is both a more general & a more precise understanding ..

..  just as energy is transferred in the physical realm, indeed reality as such would not be possible otherwise, it can also be transferred in the more subtle energetic spheres .. an angry person can, without a seemingly direct physical medium of transfer, cause others to become agitated, & vice versa ..

.. it is this kind of subtle energetic transference which is behind such phenomena as extrasensory perception (ESP) and telepathy, but also less supposedly fantastical experiences as empathy; without it, the latter would not be possible ..

.. but if a phenomenon which underlies empathy, a relatively common & arguably an essential experience in modern life, also is the mechanism which is responsible for telepathy & ESP, then both of these are just as possible .. indeed, in oder to 'activate' these abilities, one simply has to come to terms with this fact ..

.. given the positions outlined thus far, the ever increasing global population, & the corollary thesis that the resultant heat & entropy of a closed system inexorably increases with time in an ever-escalating feedback loop,

"The one thing I know is that we're con stantly being born"

- from Ripley's Game

Humanity is something akin to a large language model, certainly at least as far as individuals are considered. As children we have each learned a few starting words, which then balloon out into the larger cultural context, first of a single particular language and then potentially expanding to the worlds of discourse encompassed by each of the world's languages.

Approaching the world through the lens of language, we are constantly labelling what we see, computing visual and other sensory phenomena and attempting to reduce them to the static structures embodied in words and sequences of words, fitting them into existing conceptual arrangements that are codified according to previously ingested media and those labelings provided from out of the past.

The individual tokens we use to communicate may be atomic and capable of being placed in sound or on page in finite time and space, but the concepts themselves are not so well defined. They are nebulous and fuzzy, each calling up separate associations according to an individual's experience and not fully capable of finality as the context in which their meaning lies is itself a part of any attempt at definition. Of course, we can get the gist of a phrase or saying, and that is enough for practical purposes.

When people communicate, and are confronted with diverse utterances, when the language is understood and considering them apart from tone, body language, etc., the words are sequentially parsed and processed by the mind and fit into the internal model which was formed over time, as stated, by the ingestion of various cultural productions. The incoming bits of information must be fit into those existing structures, or form part of an external surface of meaning that is rejected. Assuming that modern science is correct in its conclusion that the essence of our conscious existence is confined to the brain and its operations, then the incoming information must literally be fit, in a dynamic geometric sense, into the three dimensional structures already active in that organ.

The brain is in a constant motion of cycles and fluxes which are to some degree stable, but which are constantly being perturbed by incoming sensory information and must variously accommodate these impulses. In conversation, when the semantic data is not outright rejected and is also not immediately taken as "understood", we respond with our own selection of words either to elucidate further understanding or to comment upon and reform the others' understanding. Think of something like tentacles reaching out and probing a space, or an organism confined to the plane of agar in a petri dish, extending and retracting as they come into contact with external forms that are also expanding and contracting.

It may be worthwhile to consider that in their surface geometric structures, or forms taken at face value, sentences (and words) are sequences, or lines, very much like an "actual" tentacle that enters into our being and is somehow dealt with, or managed. And, once inside, they take on another life of their own - just think of a time when something someone has said has continued to reverberate and take hold of conscious attention, how sometimes you respond with words internally to what you have just heard. This is certainly noticeable when there is an associated emotional reaction, but there is no reason to think that it is not also true for all cases, only that the reaction is likely to be subconscious.

Additionally, it may be worth suggesting that these "tentacles", threads of active meaning within the mind / brain complex actually take hold of the physical organisms in which they reside, swaying them and sometimes moving (literal) mountains. One only needs to think, in particular, of the religious habits and the required behaviors, to outsiders often seeming bizarre, to see just to how strong a degree these complexes affect real, gross physical movements.

Setting aside standard notions of "adversary", and thinking in the technical sense of modern artificial intelligence, individuals, and the groups composed of them, are each acting somewhat in the same capacity as GANs, or generalized adversarial networks. We are set up "against" each other and in our exchanges modulate each other's internal neural networks in response, learning as we go. For some reason, however, and the answer likely lies partially tied in with the nature of language itself, this situation of being set up "against" one another turns into real, physical adversarial activities - fights, wars, etc - with some frequency between different language groups.

"Except for stable eras, all times are chaotic eras"

- from 3 Body Problem

.. scientists recently met to discuss whether the changes that humanity has wrought upon the earth warrant the dubious honour of designating a new geological epoch in our name, which, following the con vention for naming geological eras, would be the "anthropocene", from Anthropos, the Greek word for "human" ..

.. the experts decided that this wasn't necessary, mostly for technical reasons; geological epochs typically last for millions of years, & by that measure, it's far too early to determine that our effects on the earth are so drastic as to call for such a technical term ..

.. they didn't con sider the possibility that, at the rate we're going, we may not be around another million years ..

.. in any case, the real heart of the issue isn't a technical geological term, which surely should be left to the experts in that field, but rather a question with which everyone should be con cerned, namely, what is it to be human ..?

.. today we face more challenges than ever before, & it's no longer enough simply to leave questions like this to the experts .. it's our response ability as members of humanity, as individuals, to determine our own Way, & where we stand on issues that really do affect all of us ..

.. admittedly, there are things we can't do much about even if we've thought them through, but this in itself shouldn't hinder an examination of where humanity is at present .. as members of the coLLective Anthropos, we have an energetic vote, one that can sway decisions on the quantum level ..

.. the increasingly problematic nature of arguably outdated scientific theories & "big pictures", such as the standard model of particle physics that otherwise accounts for so much that occurs in reality, might well necessitate a re con sideration of their viability in the long term .. indeed, scientists are wondering whether there is in fact a force hitherto unaccounted for, the inclusion of which would result in a more accurate & widely applicable model ..

.. what if this hitherto hidden force is none other than con sciousness, will, intention ..?  .. & what if this is the very essence of humanity itself, rather than how one dresses or how they do their hair ..? .. what if the problem isn't that we've focused too much on inserting humanity into the scene, but rather that we have focused too much on details, & not yet even seen what the nature of humanity is in the first place ..?

So be it if we are chased by the lightning and the thunder. Stay under. Our story is not over. Our Leviathan sails on through the dark night of time."

What is the relation between a gnomon and a gnome?

Surfaces of relative discontinuity

The discontinuous nature of step functions is mediated by waves, as with the fourier series that lead there to.

The linear arises from the wavelets, which are always extending and impinging, or generated from within, and received from without.

At a solid surface, a fourier series has converged to a step function by both frequency and phase shifts as distances approach that zero.

The compositional force in normal existence is never seen to break down, i.e. solid objects generally hold their shape, which seems to indicate that if the surface is due to inward and outward wavelets, then those waves can pass through, largely, the other surrounding matter, with little change.

The waves impinging at the surface may not be coming at a distance, but instead arise a local action, or reaction, to some object or process at an interior ..

".. the binary of the natural and the artificial, or of what is produced by nature and what is produced by technology, is a superficial and untenable distinction. The danger to humanity is not from technology as such .."

.. there is a similar method that can be used in the realm of ideas .. but it depends as its foundation on the ability to see things from disparate positions, or in diverse Ways .. where we stand, our position with respect to a certain question or problematic is never reaLLy at one or the other extreme, but at some point, somewhere in between ..
